How To Avoid Going To The Doctor

We've all heard it, "If you knew what I know, you would do what I do".  Well, I'm going to give you a primer on chiropractic, on what I KNOW to be true.  How to keep your body healthy and avoid going to the doctor.

Subluxation: When a bone in the spine (vertebra) loses it's normal ability to move or it's normal position, it causes a 'choking' of the nerve which then creates pain and dysfunction where that nerve goes.   That's the simple definition.  Here is an article that gives you the real definition, you can see why we shorten it and analogize it:

First and foremost, get a great chiropractor.  Find a chiropractor that takes 4 view motion x-rays to determine exactly where your spine is subluxated. They should do a thorough exam, put together a corrective care plan designed for YOUR problems, and finally and most importantly, understand that your body is a vitalistic system where every part and system depends upon the others to work perfectly. 

Premise #1: Chiropractic is NOT based in pain, it's based in function and vitalism.  It is based wholly in the science and correction of subluxations.  If your chiropractor only focuses on pain, they're doing you a huge disservice.  Pain usually shows up LATE in the game, once your body has begun to break down and fall into dis-ease, the precurser to disease.  As the body breaks down the nociceptors begin to fire (nerves that cause pain) bringing your awareness to the problem.  Pain is also one of the first things to go away.  Think of it like a fire alarm, once you put out the fire the body shuts down the alarm - but there's still a LOT of repairs to be made.  You only put out the fire if you only go for pain.  When a chiropractor adjusts the spine the changes in the mechanoreceptors causes the nociceptors to shut down, thereby reducing pain. The pain is reduced but the problem, the damage still remains.  If your chiropractor is only focused on your pain, find another chiropractor, one who understands that pain is just the tip of the iceberg.

The 1918 Flu Pandemic: Chiropractic was in it's infancy, the first adjustment was given in 1895.  24 years later, chiropractic rose to the occassion and proved itself as an amazing way to fight infectious disease.  National figures show that 1,142 chiropractors treated 46,394 patients for influenza during 1918.  Here are the known statistics!

Chiropractic was NEVER created or intended to simply treat pain.  It turns out that it works great for that, but it's because pain is the alarm bell for a body that is breaking down.  As you start to repair the body, the pain, the alarm bell is shut off.  It has NOTHING to do with the problem being repaired.  The very first chiropractic adjustment made a deaf man hear!

HOW does this work?  How does Chiropractic keep us from going to the doctor?  There is a branch of science dedicated to this very phenomenon.  It's called 'psychoneuroimmunology'.  Your brain controls EVERYTHING in your body.  It requires a very complex system of input called 'proprioception' so that it has constant information on the function and position of everything in your body.  If the nerves are not functioning perfectly, if they're being interfered with, then the brain starts to get a fuzzy picture of what's going on.  When this happens, the brain is no longer able to inform the immune system that there are invaders in the body and that they need to kick into high gear and kill it.  This leads to sickness and disease.  Your body gets sick NOT because you came into contact with a pathogen, but because it is unable to defend itself from that pathogen.  Your body is completely capable of defending itself against most known pathogens - so long as it is truly health and your nervous system is functioning optimally.  

The truth is the flu virus, the cold virus, was here last summer and yet we didn't get the flu.  We could culture your throat and we would find strep bacteria and a myriad of other known pathogenic bacteria.  Why then aren't we sick?  Simply, your immune system is able to identify and kill them before they take over.  Your immune system is functioning well enough to make sure that you don't get sick.  We don't get sick because someone sneezes on us, we get sick because our body's natural defenses are breaking down! 

How do our natural defenses break down?

These are both complex and yet simple reasons.  It's actually easier to understand if you realize that your body always tries to be 100% healthy, it's what is interfering with it that causes dis-ease.

  1. Subluxations: Simply put, your nervous system isn't functioning at 100% and therefore neither is your immune system.  Subluxations interfere with the input to the brain and the output from the brain to the immune system.  This will lead to dysfunction, dis-ease and finally, disease.
  2. Diet: Your diet is lacking in the vital nutrients that your body NEEDS to function at 100%.  You don't eat enough fresh vegetables, you eat loads of processed foods with names in the ingredients you can't even pronounce.  You eat sugar - sugar shuts greatly decreases the immune systems ability to respond to disease for as long as 6-8 hours.  You're not getting enough Vit D3, this is made in your skin when exposed to sun but we aren't getting enough sun.  Therefore, supplment at least 600mg/day of D3 and combine with K2.
  3. Exercise:  Our bodies REQUIRE motion and movement to be healthy.  Brain scientists tell us that the proprioceptive input to the brain from motion and movement should be considered nutrition to the brain, because without it, the brain is unhealthy.  We also know that exercise is nearly 75% more effective for depression than pharmaceuticals.  Get some exercise!  You don't have to run marathons, just get out and move, do, dance, bike, walk, jump rope, etc.  Your brain and your body will love you for it.

If avoiding the flu or colds isn't enough for you, see how this sits with you:
EVERY day, your body produces approximately 10,000 cancer cells and it's your immune system's job to KILL them.  If the Natural Killer cells and the rest of your immune system are not alerted to the existence of a cancer cell, they will NOT attack and kill it.  Now you have cancer!  This is drastically over simplified but I want everyone to understand it!  The more things you do in your life that create cancer cells, the more cancer cells that will be created.  At some point you will overload the system, especially if the system isn't working optimally in the first place.

In summary, get adjusted.  This is the most important thing you can do for yourself and your health.  Make sure your nervous system is functioning at as close to 100% as possible.  If your diet sucks, clean it up!  If you're a carb or sugar junkie, realize YOU are creating your next disease - and it may be the one that kills you.  Sugar is analogous to pouring gasoline on a fire when it comes to cancer and most diseases.  Get out and MOVE YOUR BODY!
